What to Expect
It is natural that you will be a bit nervous and apprehensive about talking to a counselor initially. Throughout our work together, I will give my best effort to listen to your concerns and needs, and help you to resolve any personal issues that are of concern to you. You will be actively involved in the counseling process.
The Counseling and Consultative process begins with an initial one-on-one interview that asks about your physical, mental and spiritual historical background. I will ask you questions about your physical health and medications history, your family, work history and support systems in place, previous counseling history and any issues that relate to your mental health, legal history, and, your current needs and concerns.
Looking at your strengths and weaknesses, we will develop an individualized treatment plan and a timetable for achieving your plan. You have come to a counselor because you want to make a positive change in your life, resolve an old wound, or develop new strengths. At the end of this initial session, we will decide if we can work together and want to continue with the therapeutic relationship. If we agree to continue, we will schedule an initial number of sessions; when these are completed, we will re-evaluate whether we need to continue with additional sessions, terminate the counseling, or refer to outside professionals/agencies for further assistance.
All sessions will be customized to your needs, and are confidential.
